Measuring a Glass Splashback
We have focused on making these measuring guides as simple as possible. However, there are always some top tips to remember when measuring your kitchen or bathroom walls:
Check your walls
Before measuring your space, you should first check that your walls and surfaces are straight by using a spirit level.
Take your time
If you’re trying to rush your measurements, you’ll significantly increase the risk of making a mistake. That is why you should take your time and carefully record your measurements.
Measure twice
The famous saying says measure twice and cut once, and that is especially true when it comes to your glass splashback!
When measuring, allow a little room. People want to have the glass/mirror tight but it’s good to leave a little room – 2mm. If you don’t and you come to fit the glass/mirror you may push the glass into the area and it could smash.

You will notice wall movement in all properties. You should never assume that a wall space is square. Even to the naked eye, they rarely are. It’s all about measuring the space correctly and accurately from the start. Not just a single width and height measurement. Measure at least three points for the width and three or four points for the height of the wall space in question.
In most properties, it’s the ceilings that are uneven—often not level or with dips in the plasterwork, etc. If this is the case, measure at the lowest point. Once the glass or mirror is installed, you can fill any small gaps with sealant or caulk.
Most importantly, always allow yourself some tolerance when measuring. Even reducing the required glass size by 3mm in both width and height will give you some movement and flexibility when dealing with these issues. A 3mm gap, when levelled out, results in a 2mm gap all around, which won’t be noticeable.
