Toughened Mirror is made from clear glass, cut to size, and then toughened in a kiln. A cold mirror (chrome paint) application is then applied to the mirror.
Non-Toughened Mirror is a standard mirror from the manufacturer, cut to size, and then safety backed (an adhesive sheet is applied to the back to hold the pieces in place if broken).

A: Very close. When placed side by side, you can notice a slight difference. Non-toughened is slightly brighter than toughened.

A: Yes, as long as it’s above 800mm high and bonded to the wall.

A: Standard glass, when heated to a high temperature and then rapidly cooled by cold air or water, can crack due to thermal shock. This can happen if the glass is near a heat source, such as a gas hob. The best way to test this is to feel the wall behind the heat source while cooking.
Q: Is a toughened mirror stronger than a standard mirror?
A: Yes, toughened mirror is up to 5 times stronger than non-toughened. Toughened glass is used in car side windows; when broken, it shatters into small pieces. PYREX is made from toughened glass. Both types are suitable for use as kitchen splashbacks.
Q: Can I use a non-toughened mirror behind an induction hob?
A: We recommend using toughened glass or a mirror in the kitchen. It is more durable and provides better protection.
Q: Why is there such a big cost difference between the two options?
A: Non-toughened mirror is produced in large quantities and is more competitively priced. Toughened cold mirror spray is quite new and is very expensive to purchase.
